A friend sent the girls Indian barbies!

*New Photos- scroll down to the bottom....Priya wanted to model her doll too. : )

There was a time in my early motherhood, my views were that I would not allow Lakshmi and Priya to have barbies. However, that rule was broken year before last when a relative gave the girls barbies. They loved them. So, I started looking for some Indian barbies for their Christmas present (this past Christmas). A friend who lives in India offered to look for the dolls, and found some, but they couldn't be sent here unti much later. Anyway, they arrived a couple of days ago, and Lakshmi was willing to be the model for this post! LOL

They LOVE the dolls, and are so glad to have a doll that somewhat looks like them, even though Priya was quick to point out that the dolls skin tone was whiter than mine! Fortunately the dolls have jet black long hair, a sari, bangles and a little red dot of kumkum on there foreheads. They look just like some of the Indian ladies at the temple. In fact, Lakshmi wants the temple to be the dolls first trip. I agreed.

So, here she is with her barbie...just like herself! Finally!

Updated April 24, Priya wants to model too! LOL

Another nice Indian doll I have seen (though harder to come by since they stopped selling them at the company itself) is the Indian girl doll from the American Girl "dolls of the world" series. They were not big like the normal american girl dolls, I think they are 8 inches tall. The doll shown is a little girl with beautiful brown skin in a sari, with a story book about the doll... sometimes you can still find them on ebay! (they also have a big 18 inch doll of Indian descent now too!)

I found that doll, but it ultimately was cheaper through India, and ended up being free since my friend gifted the dolls to my daughters. How nice huh?
