Mud Island River Experience

In Memphis, we have the Mud Island River Experience. This is a multi-experience park, which takes visitors through the early days of Memphis by the river. Our River is both beautiful and dangerous. Many wonderful things have happened there, and sadly, we had an earthquake in the 1800's, that moved the river backwards.

Also, in our city we have have the yellow fever epidemic twice, and once it killed almost everyone in our city. The nuns from the Episcopal Church downtown sacrificed their lives for those suffering with yellow fever, and died along with those sufferers, becoming the Martyrs of Memphis.

We also are the home of the Blues, soothing sad music that shares the stories of those who lived here. Elvis became the King of Blues in the 1960 and 1970's, and lived here in Memphis, sharing his Gospel and Blues music.

Martin Luther King died here fighting for freedom. His family runs the Martin Luther King Museum here now. They continue to fight for the rights of all people now.

Arun Gandhi, grandson of Gandhi ji, runs the Gandhi Institute, which features a pictorial of the life of Gandhi, from early childhood, to his actual death. Arun Gandhi and his wife have run Gandhi Institute for years, unbenownst to the general public. Arun is fighting for peace.

Coming to Memphis, you can't just stay for one day. To experience Memphis, you must be here at least a week, to experience all the major and minor historic events that occured here.

I love this city. I love the history surrounding this place, and I will always come back home, no matter where I live.

The first pictures were taking from my car, and this was a very cloudy day, so I am sure it doesn't look as beautiful as it normally does!! I just love our city though. It has so much to offer.

Lakshmi's new dress for IndiaFest:

We are in the process of getting our new Indian clothing for IndiaFest, coming up on the 20th of August. I will be doing Kid's Corner at IndiaFest again this year, and all of us will be representing the family at various points. Me in Kid's Corner, Lakshmi dancing, and Ravi and Priya in the fashion show. Then at the evening events, which will go two days, Ravi and I will attend the professional music programs, a live classical dance program, and a live popular music program as well. We need to be dressed well for these events. It has been fun finding the clothing. I will be making lengha choli's for Lakshmi and Priya for fun, but we have some seriously beautiful threads! A friend of mine is in Tulsa, Oklahoma right now at the India Adoptee program and she purchased Ravi two kurta pyjama's, and Priya one beautiful green lengha choli. I am totally indebted to her because all I could find was a cheap chenile type lengha choli at a local Indian store, and it had stains! Yuck!

Lakshmi dressing up in scarves. She loves to do this and makes dresses, skirts, sari's, pants, blouses and more with all the scarves, then calls herself a "princess"! How cute! She has her "hoochi mama" halter top on, as a sarong style outfit. She also has a beautiful golden tan for this summer. This is probably the darkest she has ever been. Her skin just absorbs the sun like nothing else.
