Okay, it isn't as if I haven't had enough problems with my body. I tried to make babies, and couldn't keep my pregnancies going long enough. Then later after that, I couldn't even get pregnant.
Last week, I got the news that I have hypothyroidism. I was so upset to hear this. The nurse rudely announced this to me over the phone, and when i wanted more info, she actually told me to check it out on the internet! Well, needless to say I did just that, and I will be making an appointment with an endocrinologist for case management of my hypothyroid. I will not allow this doctor to help me with it. I couldn't take another rude awakening like that over the phone.
Anyway, I digress... The fact is that HYPOthyroidism has many symptoms, all which I apparently didn't notice. However, it also causes infertility. So, with that in mind, it is possible that I will be able to get pregnant in the future, when my thyroid is in control. That is a little freaky, after all these years, to think I could get pregnant.
So I will wait to see what happens. If my period returns, I will get on some vitamens just in case I get pregnant accidently. I don't want to increase the birth defects risk by not taking vitamens. The kids have been bugging me for a baby brother, so perhaps this is how he will be arriving. After three adoptions, it would hard to imagine a baby coming to our home without an airplane being involved!
Okay, the basics. I have to take synthroid for the rest of my life. I feel crappy! I have been exhausted and freezing cold since I started breastfeeding Lakshmi. I often wondered why suddenly I was freezing after always being hot. Something about breastfeeding brought this on I think...altho I wouldn't trade adoptive breastfeeding for anything in the world!
I believe I will be able to lose those 30 pesky pounds that have accumulated on me since 2000, because once the thyroid is working right, it raises calorie burning.
Anyway, I surely wish I didn't have to deal with this, but perhaps it is not too late to give birth to the baby I have always wanted to have...even tho I am 40! YIKES!
I spent years imagining what it would be like to have a fat, full, wiggling belly with a baby inside...who would be born at term. Last year I had a series of dreams where I gave birth to a baby at home. Maybe, just maybe that dream was keeping me hoping while I was eventually finding out what was wrong.
