Okay, yes, I fess up! I would love ONE MORE BABY! I am not ready yet, of course! I pray that the process of the divorce goes fast, and I am able to begin to settle down. Once my life settles down, I predict that I will try to adopt again in 2 years or so.
I would love to adopt from India again, but would have to adopt a toddler, and I have done that twice, and really want an infant. Attachment disorder is real, and while I love my RAD kids, I wouldn't wish that on any family. When a child is abused or neglected, he or she can't function in the family normally. They need lots of help to be in a family, and that is taxing, especially when they are toddlers.
I thought that perhaps I would explore some countries that mostly bring home young infants. Guatamala is one country, Korea is another that I would be interested in. A child from Guatamala would fit into our family more, although I would have to work hard to bring that child's culture into our family. I know families where all of their children are from different countries. They handle it. Surely I can handle one more culture!
Most of the Guatamalan and Korean babies come home between 4 and 9 months. That is still young enough to impact the babies attachment and have a positive experience. Lakshmi was home right at 3 months, and she is fine.
So for more information about Guatamalan and Korean adoptions, and to get an idea of what the child would look like (depending of what child I would adopt) check out these sources:
