The kids and I love to sing songs from a book called "Rise Up Singing".
One of the funniest songs is "Be Kind To Your Parents".
Be kind to your parents tho' they don't deserve it.
Remember they're grown-ups, it's a difficult stage of life.
They're apt to be nervous & a little over excited.
Confused from their daily storm and strife.
Just keep in mind, tho' it sounds odd I know.
Most parents were children long ago (it's incredible).
So treat them with patience & sweet understanding.
In spite of the foolish things they do.
Some day you may wake up & find you're a parent too.
We also like a song by Crosby Stills, Nash and Young.
"Teach Your Children"
You who are on the road.
Must have a code that you can live by.
And so, become yourself.
Because the past is just a goodbye.
Teach your children well
Their fathers hell (I changed the word for the kids!) did slowly go by.
And, feed them on your dreams.
The one they pick's the one you'll know by.
And don't eve ask them why - if they tell you,
You'll just cry, so just look at them and sigh.
And know they love you.
And you, of tender years.
Can't know the fears that your elders grow by.
And so, please help them with your years.
They seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well.
Their children's hell did slowly go by.
