Hi- I have a seven year old son & boy is he unmotivated-but yet very bright. Do you have any suggestions for me? He is in a montesorri school, was homeschooled this year till he made me crazy & i put him back in school. He has attended montesorri since he was three! Very very lazy. Don't know what to do. I find myself yelling more than anything these days. I admire parenting style & need some sort of new ideas. thanks
Hi Imran,
I don't think kids are really lazy. I think they may be unmotivated...and while that seems like a nice way to say lazy, I don't think it is. Unmotivivated kids need...motivation.
Have you tried a chart where you keep up with his accomplishments? We use stars to show the days where he accomplishes his goals (we help him set that!) and nothing on the days he doesn't meet his goals. For 5 stars, we allow him to buy 5 peices of candy. If he keeps this up for 2 weeks, we reward him with a pizza dinner, or something that he really likes.
Eventually, we want our kids to take over on their own. Most kids need lots of praise, affection, structure and direction.
Also, sports has a great impact on boys. If he plays a sport he LOVES, and you make it clear he will not play if he doesn't keep up the grades, usually they keep up the grades. Good luck!

Thanks so much. I have three boys & one daughter so I have alot of motivating to do!!!! daughter is a self starter, pleaser type. I admire you dedication & patience w/your own children. Thanks for the advice. :) Can you recommend me to any websites that you may know of? I will start the charts today. Good luck with Ravi & the girls. Umm Imran
No Imran,
Just get some cardboard, mark graphs on it and cover it with plastic so you can write on it with erasable markers. No websites that I know of...
Enjoy!
