A horrible discovery!

I remember when Ravi was between ages 2 and 3, we used alot of sippy cups. We took them on car trips, took them to my parents and of course, we used them at home. I was always finding one under the back seat in the car, or in a diaper bag, or under a bed. Those were some stinky sippy cups! No of them would be lost in any shorter period than 3 months! : )

Well, along the same lines...I have been clearing out paperwork, toys, babyclothing and so much more today. The office is looking really good. I really never thought that I would come across a 4 year old diaper! That is exactly what happened. There was a time when Lakshmi was little, that I used disposibles for a short time because I was overwhelmed with breastfeeding, cloth diapering and having a 4 year old on top of that, who I was homeschooling. The diaper was really tiny and wrapped up in a triangle and shut thankfully. I don't know what is in it, but it sure stinks! Somehow I missed throwing that away 4 years ago...it was a gruesome discovery!

And I found something else...my journal from when we first bought our house, with details about the deal with the owner, repairs that had to be made, and a wish for children. I kept reading and I was suprised that I had written all about our first adoption, and how we got the news about Ravi. Even the arrival of Lakshmi was in there, and the news that Priya would be coming soon. So I took a moment to update my journal with all the news about our family, good and bad, happy and sad. I can't wait to FIND it again in another year to see what happens in our lives!

Jyotsna -- I just read a post you made about a week ago about living in an intentional community. I'm commenting here because I don't know that you'd go back and see the comment at that post. I also felt this way just before meeting my DH, how the lack of community in America is so terrible that we don't know nor care about our neighbors anymore. People are so isolated! We rarely step outside our homes after our long days spent at work and saying hello and being courteous and taking time to get to know the people around you seems to be not worth the effort to most folks. So I can relate with you 100% about wanting that nurturing community feeling for your children and your well-being.

One thing I have been actively exploring is Voluntary Simplicity. It relates also to how you are tired of "keeping up with the Jones" and meeting other like minded folks who value people and relationships and FREE TIME over working your fingers to the bone for material objects. I've discovered that there are Simplicity Circles in some cities where you get together with like minded individuals and have discussions about how to simplify your life and make some new friends. They might even give you ideas of how to build a community with your neighbors too.

Anyway, I haven't been to any Simplicity Circle meetings yet as I'm still here in Thailand, but I've got my arsenal of resources ready for when I'm back!

In the meantime, if you're interested, check out some of these websites for inspiration:

(Go to the discussion forums section, it's very informative and fun too)

This is the Seeds of Simplicity website where you can find out about Simplicity Circles and meet like minded individuals -- as close to an intentional community as you can get without joining a commune. :)

Thanks Amy, I will definately check out those websites, and the post you were referring to was at MDC?

I try so hard to live frugally and simply. I get so sucked up in what is going on around me that sometimes I lose my focus and forget.
