It's 4:49am on Christmas Eve. I know, I know, I don't celebrate Christmas, but I do celebrate the holidays, family, friends, my children and even myself. So, the Holiday Crunch is on to finish up all of my projects that I have started, and that is why I got up so early this morning. Actually, I've been up one hour preparing, cutting fabrics, stitching up, finishing up, anything that is not finished, is going to be rounded up, and finished up today. I plan to relax with Priya and some friends tonight (I may be so relax that I will be sleeping!).
I titled this post Holiday Crunch-y for a reason. I have only purchased the kids two gifts each this year, and those two gifts each are either handmade by someone else, or items for the kids to handmake things that they want.
Sometimes I stop in my tracks and think how sad it will be on Christmas morning, which is our Pancha Ganapati holiday final day. Will they be crying, angry, sad, disappointed? I don't know. I worry about it alot, because I have always showered them with lots of toys and goodies during the holidays. But this year is different. I've turned a little crunchier (term for natural living - so crunchy like granola, ha ha). Thus the Holiday Crunch-y title; trying to get everything done (crunch time) and everything is handmade this year.
Okay, I thought I would give a sneak peak at what I am working on right now. I still ahve clothing, mittens and armies to do,(not the military - goodness(!) - but these warm woolies that go OVER the arms, and only fingers and thumb stick out). I have purses, shopping bags, ect, ect, ect.
The items I'm working on right now are for my neices, one who definately sews, and one who is now 19, and should have some sewing supplies on hand. The pincushions are sewn with a light green paisely print on top, and a army (hate that word) green felted wool on the bottom. I've sewn them, turned them inside out (after nipping the edges) and stuffed them with wool. Now, I have to close them, then start wrapping the embroidery floss around them, which divides into flower petals.
You can do this too, by looking for a free pin cusion pattern online! If I find time, I'll post a link later.
Also, I made this hip little purse for Lakshmi, out of the bottom of pants legs, and the lining from adorable green frogs on a pink background.

Happy Holidays,
Jyotsna
