Four is exuberant; Five is controlled. Four tests the limits; Five conforms. Four delights in seeing how far she can go; Five wants to do what you, her parents, wants her to do.
When your boy or girl is only Four, visions of delinquency may dance before your eyes; when he is Five, you may wonder if he or she is a little too good.
The rythym of growth seems at times almost as lawful as that of the tides. Equilibrium -- disequilibrium. Expansion -- contraction. If you can add respect for what is going on to your natural love and affection for your own pre-schooler, you will add immeasurably to your enjoyment of these early years as well to hers. ~~~
I love this series of child development books. Without them I would be very lost. I might fall back on my parents child-rearing, and I am sure I do somewhat, but to understand that Lakshmi cut the yarn due to her exhuberant behaviour, is easy to live with. If I indeed thought she did it out of meaness, I would feel very different with her. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAKSHMI! I LOVE YOU!
